Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.

Crist Inman Founder & Managing Partner
Crist founded La Paz Group as an outgrowth of his work leading the Tourism Competitiveness & Sustainable Development project, based in Costa Rica starting in the mid-1990s. The sustainable tourism development model used in that project incorporated principles from his doctoral dissertation at Cornell University. His empirical research and several years of implementation led to the founding of La Paz Group. Entrepreneurial conservation is the name subsequently given to the idea that investors have a role to play in, and can expect attractive return on investment from, conservation of both natural and cultural patrimony.
After several years of destination strategy advisory, Crist transformed La Paz Group into a management company. In 1999 the first client for property management services was Lapa Rios and the client roster grew quickly after that. In 2010 Crist established the company’s practice in India and spent the next six years developing the Xandari brand in India on behalf of its owner-investors. After completing that engagement he returned to Costa Rica where he has led the launch of two new brands. Organikos sources and sells food and beverage products that provide a “taste of place,” with Costa Rica specialty coffees as its first offering. Authentica is a retailer, oriented to travelers, offering local and regional products that are design-forward and valorize local tradition and craftsmanship.
Amie Inman Design Director
Amie has been responsible for La Paz Group’s design and aesthetics since the firm was founded. From 2010-2017 she oversaw all design, from architecture through interior design, for Xandari Harbour and Xandari Pearl in Kerala, India; and a soft refurbishment at the original Xandari in Costa Rica. An avid food historian and researcher, Amie has also designed several resort cuisine programs as well as “local experience” programs for the Xandari properties.
Since 2018 Amie’s focus has been identifying designers, artisans and craftspeople whose products will be offered under the retail brand Authentica. She is also coordinating the design of Authentica’s first two retail spaces in Costa Rica. Prior to La Paz Group she was a production manager with the design company MacKenzie-Childs, Ltd. There she was responsible for custom-painted furniture. This followed her career as editor for Toronto Star Corporation in their New York book publishing offices. A native of Alaska, in addition to her native English she speaks Spanish, and is a graduate of New York University’s School of Arts.

While attending Cornell University he worked for three years at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, where he was responsible for outreach and communications for the Celebrate Urban Birds program. Starting in 2014 he joined La Paz Group based in Costa Rica in a management rotation program at Xandari Resort & Spa.
